About the project

When acciona Trasmediterránea increased its fleet in the year 2001 with superferries Sorolla and Fortuny and high-speed catamaran Milenium, ADELTE received an order to install various passenger boarding bridges within a limited amount of time for its terminals in Spain. Acciona Trasmediterránea’s terminal on the Sant Beltran quay in Barcelona is basically equipped for ferry reception, but sometimes also used for cruise ships. ADELTE was asked to design and install a versatile unit, able to fit the embarkation and disembarkation needs of both ferry and cruise vessels.
Movable passenger boarding bridge with a fixed entrance tunnel from the terminal to the rear gantry and a longitudinal tunnel along the seaside, providing a Z-shaped bridge. The tunnel is ‘climalit’ glazed and the gantry is electromechanically adjustable. a boarding telescopic pod covered platform stretches from the front movable cabin to provide direct access to acciona-Trasmediterránea’s ferry vessels’ entrance. The bridge is equipped with an electromechanical drive system in order to move the supporting structure along the wharf. This system consists of bogies supported on rails. Due to its 5 metre height, different kinds of vehicles are able to easily pass underneath the construction.
