About the project
As the UK's most successful municipal port, Portsmouth Continental Ferry Port facilitates 3 million passengers travelling through its terminal every year. An essential part of its project for the redevelopment of Berth 3 was a new boarding structure to facilitate embarkation and disembarkation of passengers. ADELTE was contracted to design and construct a new flexible passenger boarding bridge with additional walkway that would accommodates a wide range of vessels, with walkways adjustable in height to tie in with the Port's existing structure.
Fixed passenger boarding bridge and an additional walkway construction with specially silk-screen printed glazed tunnels and an entry capacity at three levels of the terminal building. The capability of the cabin and its hydraulic telescopic docking ramp to slide along the front of the tunnel is unique. The bridge is specially designed to adapt to tidal ranges and for the addition of a second module in the future. This unit was installed by means of floating cranes due to space limitations on the wharf.
