New York City Economic Development (NYCEDC) and Turner Construction Corporation contracted ADELTE in July 2012 to deliver in May 2013 two HYDRA Passenger Boarding Bridges at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York. With these PBBs the Manhattan Cruise Terminal is equipped to fully service the embarkation and disembarkation of cruise guests to any new generation mega cruise ship with overhanging life boats such as the NCL Breakaway, NCL Epic and other current and future vessels.
Manhattan Cruise Terminal’s new PBBs are designed to accommodate the newest and largest cruise ships which have the distinction of carrying lifeboats located outside the hull. Once moored, the new generation of mega vessels have their lifeboats literally hanging over the berth. Therefore, it is important that the PBB, or any other equipment located on the pier, is not obstructive. ADELTE’s design enables berth logistic operations, ensuring the necessary space at the berth for feeding and mooring the ships, which in this case is particularly complicated due to the configuration of Pier 88 in Manhattan. Although both PBBs look identical, they have slight variations in order to deal with the berth vertical alignment deviations. ADELTE’s specific challenge in this project is to ensure that the PBBs are ready for the first call of NCL Breakaway at Manhattan Cruise Terminal. ADELTE PBBs comply with all international safety and security standards.
