Barcelona, 5th September 2007 – ADELTE a world leading designer and constructor of sophisticated Passenger Boarding Bridges for the Cruise and Ferry industries has recently been awarded a contract by Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A. to design, construct and install a moveable and modern passenger boarding bridge of the HYDRA range to service the cruise terminal buildings on the Banchina Tagliamento quay in the Port of Venice, Italy.

Venice, strategically located on the Mediterranean Sea, is one of the most important cruise destinations for all top cruise lines as it offers their guests easy access to the centre of the most ancient and famous canal city and all of its popular attractions. Due to the increasing number of cruise ships visiting the port, Venezia Terminal Passegeri S.p.A initiated in 2005 a process of expansion and modernization of their terminal facilities.

By the end of March 2008, ADELTE’s passenger boarding bridge will service the refurbished cruise terminal buildings on the Banchina Tagliamento quay. In the design parameters set out by Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A., the capability to move along the whole quay with a total length of 430 meters is a crucial factor. Another very important feature is the adaptability of the boarding bridge to connect with the various entry levels, both on ship door entry as on terminal building entry side. The cabin of the passenger boarding bridge is equipped with a uniquely integrated hydraulic, telescopic, docking ramp that, when attached to the side of a cruise ship automatically follows the vessel’s movements and will immediately undock in the event of an emergency. The clearance under the passenger boarding bridge will allow for continuous truck, equipment and supplies traffic on the quayside. ADELTE’s passenger boarding bridge can serve any cruise ship calling on the port and is compliant with international safety and security standards.

Graziano Cosmo, General Manager of Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A., said: “Obviously our objective is to provide both cruise companies and their guests with modern, convenient and comfortable cruise terminal facilities that are also efficient, safe and secure in all aspects. To upgrade our passenger access system at the Banchina Tagliamento quay we have chosen to partner with ADELTE because they have demonstrated their engineering skills and extensive experience in similar projects’’.

This contract with Venezia Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A is ADELTE’s second contract with an important Italian cruise port. In 2003, ADELTE was contracted to install two passenger boarding bridges at the Palacrociere Terminal in the Port of Savona. At present ADELTE has delivered a total of 8 passenger boarding bridges of HYDRA range to the ports of Barcelona, Spain, Brooklyn, New York, USA and Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
