ADELTE was choosen to handle Sydney’s booming Cruise industry

Barcelona, 9th of March 2012 – ADELTE, the world leading designer and manufacturer of sophisticated Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) for cruise and ferry terminals, was contracted by Sydney Ports Corporation to design, build and deliver two state-of-the-art PBBs.

Sydney Harbor is Australia’s first cruise ship destination and the only port in Australia with two dedicated cruise passenger terminals: the Overseas Passenger Terminal located at Circular Quay, used by larger cruise ships, and Wharf 5 Cruise Passenger Terminal at Barangaroo.

A record 33 cruise ships visited Sydney Harbor in February 2012. It is the highest number of cruise ships to be welcomed by the city in one month. A total of 214 vessels are scheduled to stop in Sydney in 2012, up from 150 last year, which represents a 43 percent increase. Capacity will continue to be an issue in 2013, when 264 ships are expected to sail into Sydney.

This is why Sydney Ports Corporation is currently building a new cruise passenger terminal at White Bay Berth No. 5, and has contracted ADELTE to supply two KRONUS to operate in the new terminal.

Jordi Floreta, ADELTE Managing Director commented: “The KRONUS is a great choice. It can be operated with a wide range of vessels and with different door heights. It is a very versatile PBB which includes our latest innovations and provides a totally safe and comfort docking as it does follow automatically the vessels’ movement”.
